Michael Jackson Thriller Wall Clock Review: "I don't need no dreams when I'm by your side..."

I received this clock as a housewarming gift when I first moved into my new place from family. I had never seen anything like it at the time and I still haven’t seen anything similar since that time. It’s really a great find. I thought that it might have been vintage when I first saw it but, I am really not sure. There’s a small hairline scratch on mine but, that didn't stop me from hanging this baby up.

I haven't seen this anywhere online since I first received it but, there is another version selling on Amazon for less than $40. I linked it up here in my Holiday Gift Guide a few days ago.

Why Don't You Give Love on Christmas Day?

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to take the time out to wish everyone in my Michael Jackson family a very Merry Christmas.
All the best!

1

Fancy words will only ruin it.

"Touch" is one of those Jackson 5 songs that you listen to... enjoy... then realize what you just heard.
This song is from the album Skywriter and super sensual in its content.

Darlin' just relax
You melt me like hot candle wax
One touch and my whole body melts
You just say, you say you can't express yourself

Oh, just keep doin' what you're doin'
Fancy words will only ruin it
Touch (touch me)
That very special touch
If I satisfy you (if I satisfy you)
How can you satisfy me baby

Don't you worry baby why
You see these tears of love in my eyes
I feel this love flowin' through
Like a river girl straight through me to you

Your touch mean than words
Than any language ever heard
Touch (touch me)
That very special touch
Every brand new day (every brand new day)
I wake up wanting you the same ole way...

"Touch"  Skywriter 1973.

What is a 12 year old Michael Jackson doing about pleasing women in such a manner?

But with this song Michael does it, as he does most things very well. This song, as many songs that the Jackson 5 recorded was a tune performed originally by the Supremes. One of the things I really hate hearing is how Michael was "too young" to be singing about certain subjects. Well, to me, Michael's voice expresses such deep and raw emotion on certain songs that at times I've been moved to tears. Now many of these instances, I was a high schooler myself but, there are times now as I embark on my adult life that I sit back and listen to what he is saying and I truly do believe it.

Now I won't comment on the underlying sexual innuendos found in the lyrics of this song but... hey.
I'll just say that I'd totally encourage you to take a listen (if you aren't familiar with it already). I'd like to think that this would sound even more awesome performed by a mid-20's Michael.

How many of the artists on the radio today had the power and the heart to move souls like Michael Jackson did?

I'd argue not too many.

Michael Jackson Fan Holiday Gift Guide 2012 - For the Fan Who Has Everything

Hey everyone!

I'm coming to you today with some fun gift ideas for the Michael Jackson fan in your life (who has everything!) And check it out... these are ALL under $40.00! SCHWEET!

1. Gifts & Decor Quartz King of Pop Michael Jackson Memorial Wall Clock
Okay so maybe I am a bit biased because I have not one but TWO (yes TWO) of these on my wall. I love these clocks. They are so stylish and they're a really good gifting option for the Michael Jackson fan that has most of the typical items that any collector might have. I am really not sure where to buy this, apart from Amazon because I received my clocks as housewarming presents from family. I actually didn't bother putting batteries in mine because they look pretty without all of the ticking and trouble that goes along with having more than one clock working in the same area :-). The only real downside to this item is that the dates are printed at the bottom. For some this is a big issue and it used to be for me but, not so much these days. These are very high quality and well worth the price -- my top choice for the season!

2. Jackson Five: The Completed Animated Series
I am so excited about this one! I think that the Jackson 5 Cartoon DVD release is one of the things I am most excited for in 2013. I did a quick entry about how excited I was to hear about this a few weeks back. I would most recommend this for fans who love the Jackson 5 era, who are open to learning more about it, or for the young Michael Jackson fan in your life. I'll admit, if I had children, I'd be popping this in the DVD player for them to watch. The stories are fun and musical, yet easy enough for a young child to understand and enjoy.

3. Colorforms Michael Jackson Dress-Up Set

This is super vintage and fun! I kinda want this JUST to have it. This is one of those less popular and more difficult to find items. Recommended for any fan of the Off The Wall Era! Would be cute packaged together with The Jacksons Live CD !

4. Michael Jackson Puzzles Thriller 25th Anniversary Edition 500 Piece Puzzle
We gave one of these babies away at the last Legacy of Love Halloween party. It was a huge hit. At the time they were retailing for about 20 bucks but now they're down to just under $12 on Amazon. SCORE! I don't really have the time to devote to something like this now (or the space) but I plan on making time in the near future.  If anyone wants to buy me this for Christmas, they are totally welcome to do so!

5. Continental Accessory Corp. Michael Jackson 1 Subject Notebook, Twin Wire, 80 Sheets, 8.5 x 10.5 inches, Assorted 6 Pack (593)
I did an entry (here) waaaaaay back in the day about these but I LOVE THEM. I honestly wish that I had purchased more when they were just 3 dollars each at my local drugstore but, leave it up to good old Amazon to still have them in stock! Don't let the small picture up top fool you, these are each 80 sheets of pages that are just about letter size. Perfect gift for your Michael Jackson fan that is still in school and needs a little dosage of Mike during class to stay focused.
(That was me alllllllllllllllll the way!).

What do you think of some of these suggestions? Are you a Michael Jackson fan who has everything? What would YOU like to recieve for the holidays?

My favorite Christmas candles

This season has been so insanely busy for me- I can hardly keep up! I am so happy things will finally slow down though. By the time this entry is posted, I will be in Japan on business. Two of the things that help me prepare for long journeys are listening to music and lighting candles.

My two favorite candles at the moment are Home for the Holidays by Yankee Candle and Merry Mistletoe by Slatkin & Co. Burning candles always helps to put me in a calm and serene mood. This is only my second candle from Slatkin & Co and I was super pleased with how evenly this candle burned and how good of a throw it has. Merry Mistletoe smells like a mix of fresh pine, light citrus, and a bit of floral. I'd HIGHLY recommend this candle to anyone, especially if you're just looking for something subtle. Home for the Holidays is a bit more spicy but, it also works to help put me in the Christmas mood. I've heard for years that Michael Jackson's previous home, Neverland, was always so sweet smelling and peaceful.

What helps to get you all in the Christmas mood?

Lady Gaga goes Goo-Goo for Michael Jackson Costumes at auction

As many of you have probably already heard, Lady Gaga was the mystery bidder that purchased 55 of Michael Jackson's costumes from the auction held by Julien's Auction house this past weekend.

Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins were the creators of so many of Michael Jackson's costumes and original outfits during his career. (To see some of these costumes, I'd highly recommend getting Michael Bush's book: The King of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson.)

Like many of you I was on the website watching the live bidding to see all of these precious items sold.
Watching the auction was kind of sad because I felt like some random people were buying the items just to buy them, and that we'd never get to see these things again. It's like--- who buys these things? Hundreds of things were auctioned off since Michael died and I truly wonder who are the people that purchases these items. I wish that I had the money and the know-how to win some of these things.

I was elated to learn that Lady Gaga won so many of these beautiful costumes and am truly thankful that they aren't scattered around the world in random places. Lady Gaga tweeted "the 55 pieces I collected today will be archived & expertly cared for in the spirit & love of Michael Jackson, his bravery, & fans worldwide." --- and to that I say THANK YOU!

As  fellow artist and all around cool woman, I am happy that Lady Gaga has plans to archive some of Michael's belongings. There's no doubt in my mind that she will make the right decision on how to care for these items. Although I am not in any true rush to see these in a museum, my hopes are that one day I will be able to take my children to see some of the beautiful artwork, rare costumes, and reflect on some of the monumental moments in Michael Jackson's career.

To see the auction catalog before it's removed, check it out at the Julien's homepage here

Merchandise Review: Michael Jackson Badge Collection 1 (from Japan)

I got this pin badge set from my host mother when I went to Japan this past October. She knows how much I love Michael Jackson and she tends to pick up anything she sees MJ-related and saves it for me until the next time we meet.

This collection honestly doesn't have anything we haven't seen before but, I really love that it features a variety of photos from different eras (which we don't usually see). I haven't opened it so, I'm not 100% sure about whether or not this is an officially licensed item or not. I love getting items from Japan because they have so many goodies that we never really see here in the states. At this age, I am not too crazy about pin badges (as they leave holes all over everything and they just aren't my cup of tea (unless its Michael's Birthday week or something like that" but, I am glad that I have these in my collection.

If you are looking for pin badges, amazon sells a lot of them. Here is a link to some of my favorites- Set of 20 MICHAEL JACKSON Pinback Buttons 1.25" Pins / Badges Tribute Memorial

Why Jackson 5 Christmas Album Is A Tradition In My Home

When I think of Christmases past, there are a few things that come to mind about the Christmas season in my childhood home. One would be how my younger sister and I would both sleep on the top bunk bed (mine), head to foot, on Christmas Eve. We could hardly contain our excitement and I guess sleeping together helped us sleep at least until sunrise. I also remember one time when my dad took out a garbage bag full of wrapping paper and gift boxes and I saw a bunch of cookie crumbs in a trail outside on our steps. Could it have been from Santa Claus? We thought it was! That made me believe in Santa for a few more years than I am comfortable admitting to on this blog (haha).

One of the last memories that stand out in my mind is the soundtrack of Christmas season for my family as I remember it The Jackson 5 Christmas album. This was ALWAYS on. Of course, I remember the Alvin & The Chipmunks record also playing, as well as the Motown Christmas collection playing from time to time but, Michael Jackson's voice was a big part of the Christmas season for me.

I went through phases where I loved "Up on The Housetop" the most because I loved to hear that dialogue between the brothers about their holiday wish lists, and other times I enjoyed listening to "Christmas Won't Be The Same This Year" to hear Jermaine's soulful crooning about a holiday season breakup, and I always remember "Give Love on Christmas Day" - one of my favorites and representative of an innate desire for peace and love and for everyone to just get along and be happy. :-)

For those of you who may not be familiar with it, the Jackson 5 Christmas Album is as playful as it is traditional and festive. Songs like "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" and "Up On The Housetop" are fun to listen to and always put me in a joyous and upbeat holiday mood, while "Someday at Christmas", "Give Love at Christmas Day", and "Little Drummer Boy" are traditional and must-haves throughout the season.

I do wish that the album had included other Christmas favorites, such as "Silver Bells" and "Let It Snow" but, I am not so sure that those songs would have sounded that good, given Michael's age at the time of recording. (But then again Michael always sounds good... doesn't he?)

Did You Know?

As a high schooler, I began to learn more about the Jackson 5 and came to understand that they didn't even celebrate Christmas. Upon learning this, I became even more thankful for the beautiful songs that these young boys sang for families all over the world, without any experience of celebrating the holiday season. This brings to mind that famous quote of a young Michael Jackson saying "I don't sing it if I don't mean it". But how could he have meant what he sang if he'd never even celebrated Christmas? This beautiful talent, the talent to make us as listeners believe, understand, and identify with every word sung is so rare.

The original album, clocking in at just under 35 minutes, has been remastered twice. The 2003 re-release included a track that was not included on the original, "Little Christmas Tree" and the 2009 re-release (my personal favorite) includes a few remixes, a stripped mix of "Someday at Christmas" and a group acapella of "Give Love on Christmas Day". I found myself listening to this album on the train (what inspired this post)- it always helps me get into the Christmas mood.

For these same reasons, I imagine myself playing this same record (well CD... or MP3... or whatever) for my future children.

I pray that they will be patient with their mom's unhealthy  massive obsession with Michael Jackson and will appreciate the feel-good vibe of the Jackson 5 Christmas album.

Don't have the album?  Ultimate Christmas Collection -- Buy it Now!

I would highly recommend the Jackson 5 Christmas album to any Michael Jackson fan who has not heard it already and I guarantee that it will become an album that will be on repeat during your holiday season.

Jackson 5 Cartoon on DVD! This Animated Series Comes to DVD in January 2013!

Okay guys, so I am coming to you with a fun announcement. I just found out that the Jackson 5 television animated series is coming to DVD in a few months! According to the TV Shows on DVD website, the Jackson 5 Cartoon series will be released in its entirety on January 15, 2013. The episodes will be available on either a 2 DVD set or a set of 4 Blu-Ray discs. I have told you guys before about how much I LOVE the Jackson 5 (it was actually how I became a Michael fan) so this is something I am really excited about.  The site also states "The set -- which includes 23 full-length episodes -- is priced at $32.99 USD for the regular DVD (2 discs), and $39.99 USD for the Blu-ray (4 discs)."

I am an 80's baby so I did not technically grow up on the Jackson 5 cartoons when they first aired but, I have this VHS tape that my dad used to record all of the episodes that used to rerun on BET Network on the 90s. As a child I would always go to my grandparents house on the weekends, and so many afternoons I remember were spent watching the few recorded episodes of the Jackson 5 cartoon. This had to be what I was watching when I was 5 or 6 years old so, know that when I say I have been a Michael Jackson stan all my life... I mean it.

(image via)

The Jackson 5 Cartoon was probably what helped peak my interest in the Jackson family as a child.  Although it only aired for 2 seasons, the cool thing about the cartoon is that all of the brothers had unique characteristics that shone through in the cartoon. Michael even had a pet mouse and his pet snake Rosie- who both helped the boys get out of pinches when they needed assistance the most!

I fondly remember my favorite episode of the series being one from the second season entitled, "Jackson and the Beanstalk". The episode features the songs "Love is Here and Now You're Gone" and "Girl, Don't Take Your Love from Me". I would highly recommend the J5 cartoon to those of you who have children that already love Michael Jackson but, you'd like to expose them to some of his earlier work.

Okay so are you sold? I promise to be back with a great review of this DVD set early next year, as I have already made sure to Pre-Order it. You can Pre-Order yours too on amazon.com for less than $30.00 (plus free shipping!)

What are your favorite Jackson 5 cartoon moments? Leave me a comment!

Coming to terms with the song Breaking News.

Okay so I am coming to you with an entry that kind sorta kills two birds with one stone.

Bear with me here.

So I wanted to show you one of my most prized possessions ... this really rare (and super cute) Michael Jackson women's shirt. So I told you guys about how I have wayyyyyy too many Michael Jackson t-shirts before. Well here is one of my favorites.  I love it because it's basically a fabric collage of newspaper clippings about Michael from the 1980s. I was sent this gift from an old friend (who I suspect may have gotten this from e-Bay).

It's always one of my best picks to wear during the summer season and I wanted to share it with you guys.

As you can see, most of the articles are written in what looks like French and all of the photos seem to be from the Thriller Era.

It has a scoop neck and a cute little tie on the right side. You guys can see that this is not the longest shirt that I own and I wore this a few years back to the Spike Lee Brooklyn Loves MJ event because it was the lightest MJ shirt I have (it was over 95 degrees and we were standing all in the direct sunlight!)

I also wanted to take this time out to talk about a song that is always a topic of discussion among Michael Jackson fans. The song BREAKING NEWS....

How do you feel about the song "Breaking News"?

I was like many other Michael Jackson fans around the world that waited anxiously on Michael's official website to hear the song and I was disappointed at first....

But now I love it.

I can't put my finger on it.

I am not the biggest fan of the lyrics but, I do enjoy listening to it now when I am talking my morning walk to the train station. It takes me a long time to warm up to new material (well, posthumous material anyway) and nearly a year (if not more???) later---- I can listen to it and have fun with it.

Did you have a hard time adjusting to posthumous Michael work like I did?
What do you think about Breaking News?

Fan Review of Michael Jackson BAD 25 Deluxe Edition

Okay so I know that this post is atrociously late but, I figure that this is one of those better late than never cases. I am shut in because of Hurricane Sandy so, instead of studying all day I have decided to come on here and talk to you guys about Michael! Do you guys forgive me? :)

Today I want to take the time out to post my review & thoughts about BAD 25.

As many of you know, there were several versions of the BAD 25th Anniversary collections released. I chose to stick to the Deluxe Edition that retails for about $35.00 USD here on amazon.com. I actually got a really great deal on this from Groupon Goods, which has become my new guilty pleasure. (Seriously, I am on there every morning checking out what great things they've got on sale. I've made at least 7 purchases, most of them being of beautiful jeweler  most of them being 90% off-- or more. I'm talkin' about sparkly simulated diamond earrings for just $8 bucks and free shipping. You can't beat that....)

But anyway.... back to Michael Jackson and this awesome BAD 25th celebratory set. I personally chose this one because I am running out of room for storage of Michael Jackson stuff. Actually, I haven't even had the chance to bring all of my MJ collectors items into my new apartment. I don't really have plans to do so but, I know that I have to eventually because being away from my most prized possessions is not easy.

After partying mad hard with the Legacy of Love Crew at our huge BAD 25 celebration, I only got a chance to open my own BAD 25 goodies about a week after they were released.

Everything came in this black matte case. It's kind of the same thickness that the HIStory album is, so it won't have a problem fitting on your shelf. (But won't fit in one of those slotted CD/DVD holders).

This set contained 3 CDs: The original BAD album, the BONUS Material (a bunch of unreleased songs from the BAD Era), and a LIVE CD of the BAD Tour. I believe that this is the first live album that we have from Michael Jackson. The Jacksons Live is one of my personal favorite albums and although this BAD Live album was released posthumously, I am grateful for it.

I don't have much to say about the first or second discs. I would like to reiterate my personal stance on posthumous material.... it takes me a LONG time to warm up. To be honest, it is only in the past few WEEKS that I have been able to listen to "Breaking News" without wincing. Although I love the song it's just, there's no imagery to really associate with it. Just another reminder that Michael is gone. For now, I will maintain that my favorite track on Disc Two is "Todo Mi Amor Eres Tu". Anyone that wants to convince me that there's another track on here worth swooning over, is totally free to do so!

Disc Three is really refreshing and a breath of fresh air. It's one of those albums that I can see me putting on my ipod and falling asleep to when the times get tough. His voice is just so crisp, clear, powerful and strong. I really believe that this was Michael's PEAK in terms of concert performances and I am so appreciative that the Michael Jackson Estate listened to the begging and pleading of fans around the world that this material be released.

There are two pretty nice booklets with lots of photos that we have never seen before. My only complaint is that the photos are pretty much all miniature like this:

I kinda sorta wish we had them all larger but, it's always great to see never before seen photographs of Michael. When Michael left us, I felt like we'd never get to see anything new. No new pictures of him smiling, laughing, performing etc. but, with this, I am really impressed and it really contributes to feeling like he is still here with us in spirit!

The last disc of the set is a DVD of one of Michael's shows at Wembley Stadium from 1988, formally titled Michael Jackson Live At Wembley 7.16.1988 . I can say between this DVD and the LIVE performance CD, this BAD 25 collection has left a few thoughts lingering in my mind.

  1. It is in fact possible, to hold your own private performance of the intro of WBSS from the BAD tour. (and you will kick a**).   sidebar: am i the only fan that like jumped up and did all of the dance moves when this came on?
  2. If there is ever a time machine invented that is available for public, or Michael Jackson fan use, I'd like to go back to 1988 *pwetty pwease*
  3. Michael is seriously the best performer of all time. There will never be another, forreal forreal.
  4. Damn, I wish Michael was still here.

Overall , I would say this is a pretty good buy. Of course, most fans already have the BAD 25 album but, I truly would recommend all Michael Jackson fans to have this in their arsenal. To be honest, if nothing else, the DVD is something worth having. If you haven't seen Michael Jackson perform live during the BAD era, you are truly truly missing out! Let me tell you another thing, this TOTALLY beats watching some beat up old copy on Youtube. Youtube DOES have some gems but, for Michael Jackson fans I always advocate having a real copy. Michael was electrifying and apart from when I saw him live in 2001, this was probably my best  Michael Jackson concert experience to date. My favorite parts of the concert were Thriller (Tarzan much?) and Human Nature, just because he was so into it and he sounded (and looked) delicious! He was workin' hard up there, especially towards the end with the robotic dance move finale. I wish that the BAD 25th Anniversary sets would have contained at least one more concert from the BAD Tour. Even if it was just an official release of Yokohama. I'm confident that we will get other concerts down the line though and as they say, patience is a virtue.

For all of those who haven't gotten a chance to get BAD 25, check it out here on amazon.com: Bad, 25th Anniversary Edition, Deluxe Edition

You can also just get the DVD alone on amazon too!  Michael Jackson Live At Wembley 7.16.1988

Thanks so much for reading and let me know your thoughts on BAD 25 below! What were your likes and dislikes about this set?

For all of my East Coasters out there.... be SAFE! xx

I haven't had time to update, much less have meetups but, my partner has pretty much taken things over from here on out. I hopefully can pass my exam and be done with it so I can officially move onto the next step in my career and in life.

I'll hopefully be back a lot more in a little bit but for now, I am on hiatus.

King Of Style: Dressing Michael Jackson - Michael Bush New York Book Signing

I just wanted to pop in and announce to my readers that my partner in crime and fellow co-organizer at Legacy of Love has made a huge announcement!

After much questioning and reaching out to the Michael Bush camp, there is going to be a book signing...

right here in New York City in less than two weeks

----

For those of you who don't know Michael Bush, if you are a Michael Jackson fan, it's no DOUBT that you've seen his work on Michael at some point. So many of Michael's most iconic moments have been captured on film and the work of designer Michael Bush played a major part in his regal style. Michael Bush and his partner Dennis Tompkins not only worked with Michael through the Bad era onto the This Is It tour preparations, but they also designed some things for Neverland Valley Ranch and accessories used in other parts of Michael Jackson's life.

Some of you might say... okay, what could possibly be IN this book that would tickle my fancy? Well, here's a small excerpt from the official website, dressingmichaeljackson.com:

"THE KING OF STYLE will feature exquisite photographs of the striking fashions worn by Michael at the height of his career, as well as images showing the carefully planned construction of the clothes to incorporate his unique dance moves and the details of the dynamic fabrics, metals and other materials used. Accompanying text will provide insight into the artists’ methodology and fascinating stories from their decades-long relationship. Their stories are funny and touching, and show a human and artistic side of Michael Jackson not seen in the various other books about him on the market."

Interested? If you happen to be one of the lucky ones who will be at the annual Comic Convention (Comic Con) at the Jacob Javitz Center, you can visit Michael Bush for an advance copy of his book Dressing Michael Jackson there.

For those who won't make that, the Michael Jackson Fan Exclusive book signing will be held at the Hard Rock New York Times Square on Friday, October 12th from 3-5 p.m

Guests will be the FIRST in the world to purchase the book and get it personally autographed by Michael Bush.

I am so sad because I will be on a business trip and unable to attend this event but, I am SUPER excited for all of my friends that will get to have this amazing opportunity  I can personally vouch that after Michael passed away in 2009, I reached out to Michael Bush on Facebook and asked him what the CTE on Michael's shirts stood for. He was kind enough to answer me in a private message. (I wore a replica of Michael's CTE shirt to a party last spring). There's no doubt to the answer to that and other burning questions will be inside the book!

What are you waiting for?       Visit LegacyOfLoveNYC.com for more information on how to attend with other MJ Fans in the area!

Is Twitterland the New Michael Jackson forum?

(image via)

It was not until I got on Twitter one day late last year and discovered the tag #MJFAM that I realized how many of us Michael Jackson fans were devoting our 160 characters to the King of Pop.

I made some of my closest friends today on MJJC (when it used to be MJJForum!) and even met Shanda through soliciting members for meetup (when it was still a wee little group) on that very forum. With less and less visible online interaction on Michael Jackson forums since his passing, I have to ask...

Is Twitter the new go-to place to meet Michael Jackson fans?

Have you made any fan friends on Twitter?
